The Tree Of Life

Nominees to be determined

War Horse

Steven Spielberg and Kathleen Kennedy, Producers

I believe that this category really comes down to The Descendants and The Artist. I, unfortunately, haven’t seen either, although they both look very good. I think that for THE OSCARS The Artist just seems like the kind of movie The Academy can’t help but vote for. The second choice would be the Clooney hit. Although The Tree Of Life has that artist quality about it, I think The Academy can’t not recognize The Artist.

ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE

Demián Bichir

A Better Life

George Clooney

The Descendants

Jean Dujardin

The Artist

Gary Oldman

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy

Brad Pitt

Moneyball

My initial thought is that, again, it will come down to The Artist vs. The Descendants. But I’m kind of rooting for Gary Oldman. He’s been around for years, he’s a seasoned actor, yet he’s never really been recognized in this way. Plus I’ve heard good things about Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. I’m rooting for him. I’m a little bit worried that Brad Pitt will sneak in there and steal it, but I’m thinking there’s little chance for that.

ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE

Kenneth Branagh

My WeeK With Marilyn

Jonah hill

Moneyball

Nick Nolte

Warrior

Christopher Plummer

Beginners

Max Von Sydow

Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close

I saw that Jonah Hill was offended that people were surprised that he was nominated. I mean, he had only done comedy before and now he’s some acclaimed actor. He seems like he’s had a chip on his shoulder lately. Long story short, I don’t think he’ll win/I don’t want him to win. I’m not a fan Moneyball anyways. Too much hype and too much baseball for me. I’m leaning toward Christopher Plummer winning this category. He faired well at The Golden Globes. There we go! I called it.

ACTRESS IN A LEADNG ROLE

Glenn Close

Albert Nobbs

Viola Davis

The Help

Rooney Mara

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

Meryl Streep

The Iron Lady

Michelle Williams

My Week with Marilyn

I’ve narrowed it down to Meryl Streep, Viola Davis, and Michelle Williams. Michelle Williams is who I WANT to win, Viola Davis is who I think will win, and Meryl Streep is who I think would normally win. I mean, I still think Meryl Streep could win. Her role has everything that The Academy looks for in an award winning role! But Viola has gotten a LOT of acclaim for her role. Michelle Williams did a great job as Marilyn as well! I think her performance was spot on. She certainly deserves the award as well!

ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE

Bérénice Bejo

The Artist

Jessica Chastain

The Help

Melissa McCarthy

Bridesmaids

Janet Mcteer

Albert Nobbs

Octavia Spencer

The Help

I think this one is between Octavia Spencer and Melissa McCarthy. This one is hard to say because they both have had success this award season. Octavia is what the normal choice would be from The Academy, but I think they’ll go with the unexpected this year with McCarthy. At least I hope they do! What a great success for Sooki!…I mean Melissa…(Gilmore Girls reference).

DIRECTING

The Artist

Michel Hazanavicius

The Descendants

Alexander Payne

Hugo

Martin Scorsese

Midnight In Paris

Woody Allen

The Tree Of Life

Terrence Malick

Very difficult to say! Thinking hard about it I would say that it would come down to The Tree Of Life or Hugo. In terms of directing and not acting, I think those two really have it. Although I like Woody Allen and his films I don’t think this is his year. I wouldn’t say that the directing for The Artist doesn’t deserve recognition, but I’m hopeful that Scorsese will win.

MUSIC (ORIGINAL SONG)

Man Or Muppet

THe Muppets

Music and Lyric by Bret McKenzie

Real In Rio

Rio

Music by Sergio Mendes and Carlinhos Brown

Lyric by Siedah Garrett

Well, this one’s easy. People are pissed that only two songs were nominated for this category, but it really just comes down to the amount of votes the academy gives to a certain song. So even though certain songs were snubbed, it wasn’t intentional. That being said, it belongs to The Muppets. 1) They are The Muppets! 2) Did anyone see Rio?

MUSIC (ORIGINAL SCORE)

The Adventures Of Tintin

John Williams

The Artist

Ludovic Bource

Hugo

Howard Shore

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy

Alberto Iglesias

War Horse

John William

I’m really going to only root for The Artist. It’s a silent film! The score is all they have! That is my only choice. It better win.
