We Are The Weirdos

Grammy Predictions (updated Repost)

Record Of The Year

Rolling In The Deep

Adele
Track from: 21

Holocene
Bon Iver
Track from: Bon Iver

Grenade
Bruno Mars
Track from: Doo-Wops & Hooligans

The Cave
Mumford & Sons
Track from: Sigh No More

Firework
Katy Perry
Track from: Teenage Dream

Everyone became obsessed with Adele this year. Katy Perry’s Firework was so SATURATED into every part of our life. So does that mean that either of those will win Record Of The Year? I think it just may. Don’t think for a minute that I don’t want Mumford & Sons or Bon Iver to win! Those songs are purely beautiful, but commercially successful? I think not.

UPDATE: So after weeks of thinking about it I’ve decided that…this category could go one of two ways. Either a pop hit or an indie favorite. *Iiiiin this corner we have Katy Perry, Bruno Mars, and Adele. Aaaand in this corner we have Mumford & Sons and Bon Iver!* I would be on Adele, personally. I feel like this year might be Adele’s year. Wait…Mumford & Sons…is that your guitar rift I hear in the back of my mind? Oh well, never mind. We shall see come Sunday!

Album Of The Year

21

Adele

Wasting Light

Foo Fighters

Born This Way

Lady Gaga

Doo-Wops & Hooligans

Bruno Mars

Loud

Rihanna

Want to win: Born This Way. Will be happy with: 21. For some reason I foresee The Foo Fighters standing a chance to win. I do not however think that Rihanna or Bruno Mars will win for this category. I mean, it is Album Of The Year after all! This is a tough category though cause do you go with a recent favorite? Do you go with the commercial HIT? Do you go with the experienced group with a following? We’ll see.

UPDATE: Although The Foo Fighters are an experienced band I do not believe this is their category. I just do not see it. Although they did fair well at the VMAs, this is a different kind of award show entirely! I’m still not feeling Rihanna’s or Bruno Mar’s album, so I’ll stick with my original choices. Adele or Lady Gaga for the win! As a Monster I’m obligated to whole heartedly root for Born This Way to win this (and all) categories, but like my above prediction says, I think this may be the year of Adele.

Song Of The Year

All Of The Lights

(Kanye West, Rihanna, Kid Cudi & Fergie)

Track from: My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy

The Cave

(Mumford & Sons)

Track from: Sigh No More

Grenade

(Bruno Mars)

Track from: Doo-Wops & Hooligans

Holocene

(Bon Iver)

Track from: Bon Iver

Rolling In The Deep

(Adele)

Track from: 21

I’m rooting for Mumford & Sons or Bon Iver to win! Talk about song writing at its finest! But maybe this is the year that Adele sweeps the Grammys. Again, I see no threat from Bruno Mars. And for some reason I don’t believe that Kanye’s song stands a chance. Their is always room for error!

UPDATE: For a second I thought “maybe Kanye will get this one! I mean, it’s possible…” but then I decided that star quality and collaborations does not a Best Song make! I’m sticking by my original statement, no Bruno this year. Here’s a hopeful shot in the dark, but lets all wish for Bon Iver to win, shall we? This has actually been a pretty big year for them. I can SEE them winning this…Except for that lovely little bug called Adele buzzing her way around every category!

Best New Artist

The Band Perry

Bon Iver

J. Cole

Nicki Minaj

Skrillex

Ohhh Grammy voters…how fickle you seem! They could either go with the expected (Nicki Minaj) or the underrated favorites (Bon Iver) or for an exciting twist, the newbies (The Band Perry). I don’t really see Skrillex winning, the music is a bit niche. J. Cole just doesn’t strike me as Best New Artist, but stranger things have happened, right? I’m gonna go out on a limb and vote for The Band Perry, but hope for Bon Iver. But then again, Nicki Minaj has taken the world by storm. But alas, my thoughts are that if Lady Gaga never won best new artist (much less been nominated) then I say nay Nicki Minaj, NAY!

UPDATE: I still don’t think Skrillex will win. Nor do I expect Nicki Minaj to win. Although Nicki is a popular choice, I just think about last year when Esperanza Spalding won. I think this year will go country and The Band Perry will win. I don’t know what makes me feel this way, I just do.

Best Pop Solo Performance

Someone Like You

Adele

Track from: 21

Yoü And I

Lady Gaga

Track from: Born This Way

Grenade

Bruno Mars

Track from: Doo-Wops & Hooligans

Firework

Katy Perry

Track from: Teenage Dream

F***in’ Perfect

Pink

Track from: Greatest Hits…So Far!

Say no more! Immediately scratch all the others. I am first and foremost a Lady Gaga fan. I can’t abandon her when it matters most! I think it’d be great if she won. Plus Yoü And I is a super catchy and fun pop song! Again, the saturation of Firework into our lives creeps into the back of my mind. I like to think it’s between Adele or Gaga. But what if Bruno Mars sneaks in there and wins? Oh my god, what if he sweeps the Grammys and wins everything? I guess we’ll see come February 12!

UPDATE: Still not feeling Bruno Mars. I have strong feelings that Gaga or Adele will win this category, and this is not just my personal bias talking! It’s good that P!nk was nominated but I don’t see it going to see. Katy Perry, yes I could see that. Don’t want to see that but someone could make an argument. I mean, I’m no KP fan but Firework is a big pop song. Very strong, indeed.

Best Pop Duo/Group Performance

Body And Soul

Tony Bennett & Amy Winehouse

Track from: Duets II

Dearest

The Black Keys

Track from: Rave On Buddy Holly

Paradise

Coldplay

Track from: Mylo Xyloto

Pumped Up Kicks

Foster The People

Track from: Torches

Moves Like Jagger

Maroon 5 & Christina Aguilera

Track from: Hands All Over

Tony Bennet the legend. Amy Winehouse, the recently deceased soulful songstress. The two together make for a winning duo. A great song, no doubt. I do think the award will go Heart And Soul as a posthumous award.

UPDATE: Umm…I still think Tony Bennet and Amy Winehouse are a winning combination and a great pop duo. The Black Keys’ have a fun track, they are my second choice. Moves Like Jagger, nope. Paradise…I don’t think so. Pumped Up Kicks could stand a chance in some respects but my final answer is going to be Tony and Amy FTW.

Best Pop Vocal Album

21

Adele

The Lady Killer

Cee Lo Green

Born This Way

Lady Gaga

Doo-Wops & Hooligans

Bruno Mars

Loud

Rihanna

I really can’t decide between Adele or Gaga. Of course I want Born This Way to win but the question is WILL it win? I also can’t decide if Adele will sweep the Grammys and win everything Norah Jones style (circa 2003). I’m just gonna narrow it down to the two and wait to see. I will say that Bruno Mars being nominated for all of these categories stresses me out. I mean, really? I can’t differentiate between any of his songs.

UPDATE: Still can’t differentiate between any Bruno Mars song. Still don’t think he’ll win. I’m sticking with my original answer and calling it Gaga or Adele. Come what may! In terms of vocal…Adele? You know my feelings by now.

Best Rock Performance

Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall

Coldplay

Track from: Mylo Xyloto

Down By The Water

The Decemberists

Track from: The King Is Dead

Walk

Foo Fighters

Track from: Wasting Light

The Cave

Mumford & Sons

Track from: Sigh No More

Lotus Flower

Radiohead

Track from: The King Of Limbs

I’m REALLY rooting for The Decemberist. That song is just too good. I’ve already expressed my adoration for Mumford & Sons. One of the classic groups such as Radiohead or Foo Fighters aren’t striking me in any special way. I don’t think Mylo Xyloto will win any Grammys though, as sad as that is. I actually like Mylo Xyloto!

UPDATE: Choices choices choices! After listening to Lotus Flower, I enjoyed it! Radiohead doesn’t often disappoint. However, I do not believe this is their category. Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall IS a pretty good song…hmm. Thinking…thinking…Decemberists or Mumford & Sons. TOUGH CALL! Who will get the most votes?

Best Rock Song

The Cave

(Mumford & Sons)

Track from: Sigh No More

Down By The Water

(The Decemberists)

Track from: The King Is Dead

Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall

(Coldplay)

Track from: Mylo Xyloto

Lotus Flower

(Radiohead)

Track from: The King Of Limbs

Walk

(Foo Fighters)

Track from: Wasting Light

Rock ins’t exactly my genre. I like indie rock, but it’s harder for me to pick between rock songs than it is to choose between pop songs. That being said, it’s basically my same choices as before. Either Mumford & Sons or The Decemberists. I love love love both of them and would be happy for either.

UPDATE: I feelings haven’t exactly changed. But something about Radiohead’s song is really speaking to me. Grrr! It could any of them! Even Mylo Xyloto could stand a chance! Final decision is going to be…The Cave.

Best Alternative Music Album

Bon Iver

Bon Iver

Codes And Keys

Death Cab For Cutie

Torches

Foster The People

Circuital

My Morning Jacket

The King Of Limbs

Radiohead

Are you sick of me yet? I know I know, I keep picking the same people! I can’t help it. I think Bon Iver is amazing. Death Cab is good but…I don’t know if that Album is the Best Alt Album. Foster The People, so new! so fresh! Let’s cross our fingers for Bon Iver.

UPDATE: Like I’ve said before, this year has been big for Bon Iver. I’m gonna go with Foster The People. They’ve had some mainstream hits. My Morning Jacket has a good album too, but Foster The People, that’s my final answer.

Best R&B Album

F.A.M.E.

Chris Brown

Second Chance

El DeBarge

Love Letter

R. Kelly

Pieces Of Me

Ledisi

Kelly

Kelly Price

I’m real soulful, btw, so I know all about this category. But to be honest I don’t know at all. Haven’t listened to any of these so I have no idea. Any ideas? p.s. El DeBarge? Weren’t they big in the ’80s? Talk about a throwback! Who knows…anyone?

UPDATE: Chris Brown. I’ve heard talks of a comeback and he’s really the only one I knew. Well, that’s not true. DeBarge and R. Kelly I know but…seriously? R. Kelly? In terms of R&B Ledisi is SOULFUL with a capital FUL. Again, not the music I regularly listen to. Ya know what? Let’s go with Ledisi or Kelly Price. That’s what my heart says. Ledisi FTW.

Best Rap Performance

Look At Me Now

Chris Brown, Lil Wayne & Busta Rhymes

Track from: F.A.M.E.

Otis

Jay-Z & Kanye West

Track from: Watch The Throne

The Show Goes On

Lupe Fiasco

Track from: Lasers

Moment 4 Life

Nicki Minaj & Drake

Track from: Pink Friday

Black And Yellow

Wiz Khalifa

Track from: Rolling Papers

I hope with everything I am that Black And Yellow wins NOTHING. EVER. What an obnoxious song. Quick sidenote: I know all of Nicki’s part in Moment 4 Life. If Kanye and Jay-Z won I think many people would be please. It’d be crazy if Nicki won against Kanye and Jay though! I do not think Chris Brown will win, just out of respect for Rihanna. But…I’m gonna go with Otis. I think they will win. Aren’t they like the kings or something.

UPDATE: Look At Me Now is a pretty good song, TBH. Honestly I’m thinking it’s between Chris Brown or Kanye/Jay Z. I like Lupe Fiasco but no, I don’t think he’ll win. Kanye and Jay Z are favorites, but Chris Brown has a HOT song.

Best Rap/Sung Collaboration

Party

Beyoncé & André 3000

Track from: 4

I’m On One

DJ Khaled, Drake, Rick Ross & Lil Wayne

Track from: We The Best Forever

I Need A Doctor

Dr. Dre, Eminem & Skylar Grey

What’s My Name?

Rihanna & Drake

Track from: Loud

Motivation

Kelly Rowland & Lil Wayne

Track from: Here I am

All Of The Lights

Kanye West, Rihanna, Kid Cudi & Fergie

Track from: My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy

This track features 4 HUGE artists. Kanye, Rihanna, Kid Cudi, and Fergie. I think in terms of best collabo, this song will win. A little insight: I had to text my brother and ask him cause I had no idea.  I narrowed it down to All Of The Lights and I Need A Doctor, but his boyfriend threw a wrench into it and said he thought it was Rihanna’s year and What’s My Name WAS a popular song. But I came to the conclusion that people, even Grammy voters, love Kanye and with the star power in that song…It should win.

UPDATE: I’m still down with All Of The Lights winning, but I’m On One is a cool song with a cool collaboration. I’m not really feeling I Need A Doctor by Eminem. That song came and went and I think it’s chances for winning did too. All Of The Lights, final answer.

Best Rap Song

All Of The Lights

(Kanye West, Rihanna, Kid Cudi & Fergie)

Track from: My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy

Black And Yellow

(Wiz Khalifa)

Track from: Rolling Papers

I Need A Doctor

(Dr. Dre, Eminem & Skylar Grey)

Look At Me Now

(Chris Brown, Lil Wayne & Busta Rhymes)

Track from: F.A.M.E.

Otis

(Jay-Z & Kanye West)

Track from: Watch The Throne

The Show Goes On

(Lupe Fiasco)

Track from: Lasers

I have it from a reliable source (my brother and his boyfriend) that it will be between Otis and Look At Me Now. He told me that and I said “Oh, Chris Brown? Really?” He said “Yeah, he’s making a comeback from his beating days.” So I can go with it. Between the two I’m gonna go with Otis.

UPDATE:  I like Chris Brown’s song so I feel like it has more of a chance of winning than previously thought. In terms of Best Rap Song, it truly believe it’s between my two previous choices. They are some pretty cool rap songs. I hesitate to say “best” (as in ever?) but that’s just me.

Best Rap Album

Watch The Throne

Jay-Z & Kanye West

Tha Carter IV

Lil Wayne

Lasers

Lupe Fiasco

Pink Friday

Nicki Minaj

My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy

Kanye West

I’m gonna go with either My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy or Tha Carter IV. All of these rap categories are just shots in the dark to me because I don’t have a very good sense of this genre. It’s rather embarrassing really. I’m a fan of Nicki Minaj so it’d be cool if she won. Especially since her album will be dropping 2 days later. Talk about publicity (much UNNEEDED publicity).

UPDATE: I think it’s between Kanye or Kanye. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (a good album) or Watch The Throne (another good album). Watch The Throne has Jay Z so…that’s a step up! Watch The Throne is a strong album…so that’s my choice!

Okay, there are a whole lot of country categories but I know even less about country music than I do anything else, so I’m going to skip those. Feel free to tell me your predictions if you want!
